Stock Market

CityRP does not have a stock market, and will not bring one back any time soon. That covers both a new market and the extensions requested for past ones: an index, shorting and share transfers.

Why

We will not revisit stock markets any time soon. We have had three, and each became an unmaintained mess: no integration with the rest of the game, clan bias issues, and no real benefit to players.

The archived decisions tell the same story. Early requests in 2016 targeted the first version of the exchange while it was being rewritten, and others were archived in 2019 once the market was shut down. A 2019 request to recreate it failed a staff vote: it had already failed three times, had no one to support it on the back end, and acted as "a giant lotto machine that gives out way more money than it takes in." A 2020 request was judged unfeasible, and in 2024 Doctor Internet declined another because, without proper support, it "just turns into a glorified casino."

Prior requests
