Job Access Gates

CityRP does not put a quiz, a test or a new playtime or REP requirement in front of a job. This covers entry tests for police and other lethal-force jobs, and hours-played gates on jobs such as Gun Dealer, Paramedic and Mechanic.
Why
You learn a job by doing it. This is the anti-pillar against gating play behind whitelists or RP tests, and it follows from Meet Players Where They Are, under which a new player can join, take a job and be doing something within minutes.
Staff reached the same answer repeatedly from 2015 to 2018. Tests and time locks were seen as another whitelist that would hold back and put off new players. Locking a player out does not teach them to roleplay; as a 2018 vote put it, "You don't learn how to be a job by not doing it." Jobs such as fire, EMS and secretary have no tools that can seriously disrupt roleplay. Where players do a job badly, that is a moderation issue for staff or for the President, Vice President or Fire Chief, not a reason to gate everyone.
Exceptions
A few jobs carry lethal-force or leadership powers that a brand-new player should not have on their first visit, and keep a gate:
| Job | Gate |
|---|---|
| Police Officer | 4 hours played |
| Police Chief | 8 hours played |
| Secret Service | 4 hours played |
| Secret Service Lead | 8 hours played |
| Vice President | 6 hours played |
| President | 10 hours played |
| SWAT Unit, SWAT Sergeant | Premium |
These are the existing gates, and the list is closed: a suggestion to gate another job, or to add a test to these, meets this decision.
